KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE ENROLLMENT

SOUTH MADISON'S REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR!

KINDERGARTEN:   South Madison offers a full-day Kindergarten that meets 5 days per week.  No tuition. Only communication fees.  Parents are encouraged to register their child for kindergarten if he/she will be 5 years old by August 1 of the school year. 

Kindergarten provides a variety of learning experiences that develop students academically, socially, and civically.  A successful kindergarten experience includes a range of factors:

  • language skills, including oral, reading, and writing
  • mathematics skills, including number sense, computation, and modeling
  • general knowledge of the world, including being part of a functioning community, making sense of time, symbols of the nation, and physical environment around them
  • process skills such as perseverance, precision, and problem-solving
  • communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and critical thinking
  • self-confidence, self-regulation, and a growth mindset
  • physical health and sensory-motor skills

Each child is unique and our goal is to support each child's growth.  Teachers and administrators embrace the diversity of each child and focus on the development of the whole child. 

REGISTRATION FOR 2024-2025

We are “rounding up” incoming kindergarteners for the upcoming school year. Kindergarten round-up will be by appointment only to allow your family the best experience. Please plan to attend at your home school.

KINDERGARTEN READINESS

KINDERGARTEN AND 1ST GRADE AGE REQUIREMENT
In order to enroll in kindergarten, students must be 5 years of age on or before August 1 of the school year.  Similarly, a student must be 6 years of age on or before August 1 of the school year to enroll in first grade. 

ENTRANCE WAIVER DUE TO AGE
South Madison does have a waiver option for incoming Kindergarten and First-grade students whose birthday is after August 1 and before October 1.  Click here to view information about South Madison's early entrance waivers for incoming Kindergarten and 1st-grade students.

ENTRANCE WAIVER DUE TO NOT ATTENDING KINDERGARTEN
If a child seeking to enroll in first grade has not attended kindergarten, the school will determine whether the student should be enrolled in first grade or kindergarten based on a screening process. Click here to view information about South Madison's entrance waivers for incoming first-grade students who have not attended kindergarten. 

SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT, IN-DISTRICT TRANSFER, and NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS

School Assignment:  Find out which elementary school your neighborhood attends by going to the district transportation website.

In-District Transfers:  If you wish to request to transfer your child from his/her assigned school, please contact Mr. Andrew Kruer at 765-778-2152.

Non-Resident Students:  South Madison accepts non-resident students based on school and grade level openings.  See additional information here.
